The Birmingham Ramblers operate a programme of Walks for the Public (Go directly to the programme), to provide opportunities for people to start (or re-start) walking for health and pleasure. These walks are not intended for experienced walkers, who are members of rambling groups other than the City of Birmingham Group. Walks of approximately 5 miles are organised once a month on Saturdays using trains or buses. You don't have to be a member of the Ramblers' Association to join these walks. Please wear sensible shoes and bring a raincoat or umbrella, just in case. Paths may be muddy. There may be stiles. Children welcome with an adult, provided the children can walk the distance. You cannot bring a dog. On all walks participants should bring food, something to drink and suitable footwear. Boot covers (e.g. plastic bags) are suitable for pub stops. Some walks have a pub/tearoom at the midpoint. If necessary, e.g. because of flooding, we may change the route, or take you on a different walk (where we don't have to wade through a river or a mud-bath).
If you think 5 miles is a bit too far for you just now, go and take advantage of the Get Walking, Keep Walking programme (GWKW), available in Birmingham as in several other UK cities, and get yourself up to scratch first. Click on this link to go to the GWKW website:www.getwalking.org/birmingham.
Groupsave (i.e. 3 or 4 people travelling together) applies to trainfares, with discounts of 1/3 to 1/2 per ticket.
