Report of the 2011 Get Walking Weekend

May 14thHenley in Arden

17 members as well as 17 members of the public (eight of whom were first timers) turned out. Our leader for the day was Judy Clayton, who needed no help in leading. The Group ate a picnic lunch on the canal bank at Preston Bagot Locks and luckily the sun showed itself during lunch. When we were walking on after lunch, we experienced an unusual event. Thank goodness it was at the other side of the canal. We heard a strange sound and we all stopped to see a largish tree trunk slowly split about 15 ft from the top and crashing into other trees nearby. We were all in awe of the sight. It looked as if it was about to rain, but it stayed dry, and the sun came out right on cue, as Dixie was taking the Group photo. Back at Henley people split up to go to different venues, as there was about an hour to spare before the train was due, but in the end people met at the station for the 3.50pm train.
